1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup Sugar
2 Eggs (separated)
2 1/4 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup cold strong Coffee
3/4 cup Walnuts (cut up)
1 teaspoonful Vanilla

Blend thoroughly Crisco, sugar and egg yolks, add alternately the sifted dry ingredients and the coffee, stir in nuts and vanilla and, lastly, fold in egg whites beaten stiff.   Turn into greased pan, bake in moderate oven (350) for one hour, cool and then ice with:

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt coked with
1/2 cup strong coffee until it spins a thread.

Pour slowly 1/3 of syrup over two egg whiles beaten stiff and beat as your pour.   Cook remainder of syrup until it forms a soft ball in cold water and add to icing, beat until consistency to spread.
