CORN BISQUE

4 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 cups milk
1 1/4 cups canned corn
1 1/2 cups canned tomatoes
4 whole cloves
1 bay leaf
1/2 tablespoon sugar

Melt butter in double boiler and blend in the flour and seasonings.  Gradually add milk, stir constantly until a smooth paste is formed, then dilute with remainder of milk.   Add the corn, cover and cook 10 minutes.  Cook the remaining ingredients together for 5 minutes.  Strain, reheat and add slowly to the milk mixture.   Serve at once.  (6 servings)
