4 oz. flour
1/2 pint milk
pinch salt
1 egg

Put flour and salt into basin, break egg in hole made in middle of flour, stir in flour from sides adding a little milk gradually, till smooth thick batter if formed.  Beat well with wooden spoon—stir in rest of milk and let stand to allow grains to swell.  Pour into hot greased tin and bake 1/2 an hour.

When pudding has set and risen, place roast meat over it to finish cooking.  this improves it very much.
