Chocolate Snowballs

1 c. unsifted flour
pinch of salt
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1 (1/4 lb.) stick butter
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. finely chopped walnuts
confectioners' sugar

On waxed paper thoroughly stir together the flour, salt, and cocoa.  In a small mixing bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar and vanilla; with a wooden spoon, gradually work in flour mixture, then walnuts.  (Mixture will be stiff).  Shape into small marble-size balls using 1 teaspoon of dough for each.  Place about 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake in a preheated 350 oven for 15 minutes.  Cookies may have slight cracks.  Let stand until cool or cookies will shatter, remove to wire rack to cool completely.  Spread confectioners' sugar on waxed paper; roll cookies in sugar.  Store in a tightly covered tin box lined with waxed paper or plastic wrap.

Makes 4 dozen.
