Turtle Cake

 

1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. margarine
1 c. chocolate chips
1 can flaked coconut, optional
1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 c. chopped nuts

Prepare cake mix according to package directions.  Pour half of the batter in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan and bake 15 minutes at 350.

Melt caramels in a double boiler over low heat and add margarine and milk.  Spread over cake.  Sprinkle chocolate chips, chopped nuts and coconut over cake and caramel topping.  Pour rest of cake batter over cake and bake an additional 30 minutes at 350.


Frosting:
1 stick margarine
1/3 c. milk
3 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 box confectioners sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
dash of salt

Mix margarine, milk, cocoa and salt.  Bring to boil.  Add sugar and nuts and spread icing over cake.
