Sweet Sour Red Cabbage

1 medium head red cabbage, shredded, not too fine.
Melt 3 tablespoons bacon drippings, and add 1 large onion, chopped. 

Cook until golden brown.  Add:

1 1/2 tsp. flour or more
1/2 tsp. salt
pepper to taste

Add hot water to make a medium white sauce, about 1/2 cup.  Add 1/2 teaspoon monosodium glutamate.  Add shredded cabbage and 1 large sour apple, cut in small pieces.  Simmer until nearly done.  Then add:

2 Tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 c. brown sugar
few cloves

Continue cooking until done.  Correct seasonings if necessary for a sweet-sour taste.
