This is the Panama Railroad Steam Engine 299. It was on display at the Balboa Train Station for many years until 1979 wherein it was removed from the display and taken to Pier 18 in Balboa, and loaded on the U.S.S. CRISTOBAL by the Crane HERCULES and taken back to the United States for restoration and display in museums.   Its present home is at a railroad museum in Pattison, New Jersey.

The 299 served the Panama Railroad for many years and steamed across the isthmus of Panama hundreds of times hauling passengers and cargo.
