An Isthmus Christmas
(Sung to the tune of Here Comes Santa Claus)

Mary Ridge, BHS '62

Here come all-the-cars, dimmed with parking lights right down Santa Claus Lane
Neighbors and their friends have decked their lawns with candy cane
Santa's sleigh is a brown cayuco pulled by a big cayman
Fan inhand, you'll see old Nick with a wink and 'jamas on.

Palm trees wrapped with lights and bulbs, hibiscus green and blue
Adding cheer to a full new moon, they welcome passers-through
Then it's home for a sweet "rompope"--eggnog a la Zone
And calling fam'ly from"the States" on our C Z telephone.

Then comes midnight, churches tell the Christmas Story true
Choirs sing and bells a-ringin', "Alle, Allelu"
Then it's back to waiting on the Three Kings passing by
Our trees turn brown, we take them down to the park for the hot dog fry.

Burning ember, we remember hod our hearts did sigh
Some kids cried to see their tree, for in fact, their tree did die
All the fun we had at Christmas lives on in our heart
The folks we know and knew and love will never, never part.
