Comments: I was born in the Navy hospital at Coco Solo, CZ on July 4, 1940. My father (USN) was stationed in Panama. I would enjoy connecting with anyone else from this era. My mother and I along with other dependents were evacuated from the CZ in early 1942 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Comments: Thank you for the photo of Coco Solo Elementary. I attended 2nd and 3rd grade there in 1970-72. My Dad, Robert Pollock, was airborne and we lived at France Field, we had the greatest downstair neighbors (the Ken & Jane Bernardo family from Gaum), my little brother was born at Coco Solo Hospital, and it was one of the greatest times of my life!

I was born in Panama City In 1945 and lived there until I emigrated to the U.S. in 1966. I resided on the very popular Casa Muller or "Casa Miller" on the Avenida Central crowded with all of the buhoneros. I have been visiting this site for the past two years and I think it is a great site. I failed to sign the guest book on my earlier visits, was uncertain. However, I must confess that what most impressed me was the love You feel and expressed for Panama, Yes I found it starangely unnusual, because of lthe much publicized problems we used to have with the Zone. I need to point out also that both my grandparents worked on the Zone, my garandfather worked for the Army,my grandmother worked at Gorgas for about 31 years before retiring and moving to New York, My uncle also worked at the school of the americas until he retired. my Mother also worked for a Dr. Springer who lived near Gorgas Hospital. So you see when I visit this site, I too am filled with that yearning to go back, so far i have been back once in the last 34 years, and it wasn't until I actually got there and saw my elementary school still standings, the lovely faces and smiles of relatives and friends that I realized how much I had missed her... Panama. So thank you for sharing your memories of, and feelings for Panama with me. Paisanos.

Comments: Hi, all. It's sure nice to see this place. I miss my college friends and "the zone" and the interior. I really miss the culture and the jungle. George Brittain (the karate teacher at CZC) and I have been married and raising 3 kids for 18 years. I was there from the fall of 1975 to the summer of 1979. His mom and some of her siblings still live there.

Comments: No place in the world better than Panama. Believe me, I have lived in many different places (France, Belgium, Bosnia, Kosovo, Germany, Wash State, IN, IL, KY, GA, TX, CO, NJ, FL). Was in Panama 55-58 (Albrook), 71-73 (BHS72)(Curundu), 82-85 (Clayton). Married to Anabella Simms BHS73 (Curundu) since 1973. It is great to see sites like this on the web. As we grow older, my wife and I reflect on the fading of this unique place that was once called the Canal Zone. My wife's father was born and raised (with his brothers and sisters) in the zone because his father left the US to go and help build the Canal and then stayed. Needless to say, we are saddened but at the same time we can't help but feel glad, for we have lived and experienced a life that not many people have.
