Comments Dad pulled several tours, some at Howard and the last at Albrook so my little brother and I attended the Balboa elementary school, the elementary school at Ft Clayton and Diablo Heights (1966-71). What a completely FANTASTIC place to be a kid! We all went back in late 1998 just to look around. Albrook was an abandoned ghost town... it was the strangest experience of my life... like an episode of the Twilight Zone where everyone had just stopped whatever they were doing and left. Everything was exactly as we remembered it. We miss it so much! As a single guy now I could go back and just hang out for awhile, I guess. But have no idea what kind of a welcome Americans are getting down there right now, and doubt I could find any paying work. Anyway, hello to Tracy Arnold and David Black, wherever you are!

Comments If I were to visit Panama (Coco Solo and Gatun), how much of it would look like it did in 1968 when I left???
I have told my kids many stories about my stay in "the zone" and can almost smell the sweetness of Pina Beach and the Gatun Spillway each time. I try to forget the smell of the crushed crabs that crossed the road at night (about half-way between Coco Solo and Margarita). They were a mess to hitchhike thru on my way home from the Ft Gulick, Ft Davis, and Margarita Teen Club dances.

Comments My dad was the pastor at Margarita Union Church from 73-76. I was young, but living in Panama was the best time of my life. I experienced severe culture shock when we moved back to the states. Does anyone remember "Santa Claus" coming around in a truck in Margarita? And the bonfires? And being able to ride your bike ANYWHERE? Was it really safer there or just the era? Does anyone remember Purple Passion soda? Ah, to be a kid again...

We were married at Howard and attended church at First Baptist of Balboa.Our latest visit was last July & August enjoying the Rain Forest Resort & De Cameron.

Comments I'm glad to have found this site, it brings back a myriad of emotions engulfed by an overall happiness. I lived on Howard AFB 81-84 and attended Fort Kobbe Elementary School for the K-2nd grades.
