This has been a great site to find friends from when I lived in the Zone. Recently I was able to be reunited with a couple of friends when I visited my sister Sue in Pittsburgh PA.the weekend of 6/15/02. We meet up with Jack Holcomb and Mike Klasouski of Gatun CHS class of 1963. It was great to see them and talk about the good old days in the zone. They may have aged as we all have but they still had the same personalities they always had when I knew them as a kid. It was great to see them and also good to hear from other who remember our family when we lived in the CZ.

Comments I was stationed at Fort Clayton from '73 to '78 and again from '79 to '82. Love your site. I always wonder what they're doing to my beloved paradise away from home since the turnover.I went for a visit in '95 saw Amador all shot up. Rented a guest house in Cocoli for a week...looked like a concentration camp. Much sadness.Well life goes on.

I lived in the canal zone for four years in the fifties as an army brat. Ft. Davis and Gulick Heights were home. Schooled at Margarita and Coco Solo. Had first communion and confirmation, cubscouts, summer recreation,learned to swim and on and on. In short the most important years of childhood were spent beneath the Panama skies. I miss them and this site brings back many memories. Anyone out there who has similar experiences? Drop me a line and share if you want.

I just wanted to share a wonderful lunchtime experience I had on 29 May 02. I currently work at MacDill AFB, Tampa, Florida and so at lunch time, decided to walk to the AAFES Base Exchange to see about getting some graduation presents. Well, on the way back to work, I was walking down the mall hallway in the BX, passing all of the different vendors with their wonderful things, when Ay Ya Yi!....there is was! The Panama Canal Museum Booth, with one of the Past Panama Canal Society Presidents, Faith Brundage along with Kathy Egolf! Well, I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to be standing before all of that wonderful Panama Canal and Panama Stuff. It was like for just a moment there, I had gone to heaven....well you know...HOME! The ladies told me that they were in the Mall Complex of the MacDill Base Exchange that week to promote the Panama Canal Museum. And, as an added note, they will be at the Panama Canal Society of Florida Reunion next month with this display and a lot more! So...if you have stuff to donate to them and want to contribute, you HAVE to go by and see them!!!!!!!
Needless to say, that day was great! I bought a wonderful Cook Book called "Cocina Panamena" that is in English and in Espanol as well as a new "Chacara" to take to the Reunion with me. I did not get much to eat but I sure felt "full" when I returned to work. Just what I needed to complete my day!!! So everyone going to the Reunion, take a few minutes to go see them....it will be really worth it!!!!!
