Comments: Hi! My name is Nicole FitzGerald, I am 13 years old and I have gone to 4 of these schools, and had a great time in all of them. I have gone to Diablo Elementary School, Balboa Elementary School, Curundu Elementary School and Curundu Junior High School. It is not because I have failed it is because I have grown older and they have closed these schools. I would like to see if you could but more information about these schools and the people where in them. Thankyou!

Comments: hi to everyone. enjoyed the site. Perhaps you want to add my homepage on vessels in the CZ, in your links. I've made nearly 43 views now. I hand colour black and white originals, to create a Maduro like postcard of unusual or memorable canal zone transits. also put as much info as poss on the transit on the Maduro-like reverse At present I'm working on three new cards. American L class subs at Gatun. Saratoga full of Biplanes at Paraiso German cruiser Prinz Eugen in 46' on her way to Bikini atoll for the atom bomb tests. These new views will go up in the next few weeks once I've printed the postcards. Plenty of other stuff on the site to enjoy as well, including "Titanic" in the locks !!! (well an artists impression of her) Cheers Clive Fennessy

Comments: Just returned back from Panama...lots of changes.. people the same, beer taste the same and the beaches the same... the city has exploded! A lot of traffic and new buildings. Biggest news I got is the opening of the Gamboa Resort. Targeting the eco-tourist, a $30,000,000 resort! 5 star, they have remodeled the old quarters into "quaint, 1930 era villas" I wanted to go fishing so stopped by since they have boats and guides available, price quoted $100 per person, when I questioned the cost in a very Panamanian way "Chuleta" I was told that the resort spends a lot of money and time stocking the lake with peacock bass, etc.... after I told him not to be fooled with my Gringo looks, and explained that I grew up in Panama and know very well that he does not stock the lake, was able to charter for $40. HA. Anyway check out www.gamboaresort.com. It truely is a class act. Later Steve

Comments: Greetings. It is almost September when the winds of autumn start to blow and the leaves start to change to gold. It is a time when all young at heart turn their thoughts of past and future glories on the gridiron! Yes, in the old Canal Zone we had them......if you remain quiet you can hear the cheers and the roar from the crowd at Balboa Staduim as the victorious BHS Bulldog Football team charge onto the field under the bright overhead lights. Wow, it doesn't get any better than this......yes indeed! Now moving on.......stay with me now....the next play will be Y-84 out of the split T Formation.....Hut 1; Hut 2; Hike.......the pitch is for my homepage. I am still working on it. I am new at this...really. But sign on for a visit to some of my reflections of the past. I will be your travel guide to the land where the tropical breezes kiss the deserted beaches. Like the commercial....you only go around once, so go for the gusto! Lets fly home on Air Panama. Not up to it.....try a sea cruise. It can be so relaxing. We will provide hammocks for all those who really want to enjoy a Siesta like those of El Valle. I have a few links that may provide further surprises. I am planning more.....but for now.......ask yourself, "Why not ESCAPE TO PANAMA?" You can leave right now. The coin of the realm is TIME! Your time to enjoy some fabulous vistas and lots more.....so, go for it! You will be glad you did.......So, sit back and don't touch your dial.....we now have positive control....Take it away, Number One. Make it happen! God Bless all who read these tracks......Hasta La Vista, I'LL BE-BACK!

Comments: Never been to the Canal, but was researching for an article on the building of the Panama Canal I am doing for a newsletter I am editor of... and came across your site which I think is really great! I grew up a missionary kid in South Korea, and we all have our own little "brat" thing going... Sure was interesting to see how people can live in a far-off country and build such a bond and share such memories. You never do forget!!! Really great site you have going here.

Comments: My Maternal grandfather, C. S. Perry was an American who worked on the building of the canal with the Panama Railroad. He is a recipient of the Roosevelt "junk" medal. He was there from 1907-19?? but he has the medal and 2 add ons. He is not listed on the Builders Web Page as a recipient and I don't know why. I have in my posession the medal and his name is engraved on the back. I am doing genealogical work on my Mother's side of the the family. Her mother ( Frances Ann Snyder) and her grandmother (Clyde Snyder or Clyde Ridgeway) moved to the CZ in the early 1900's. Frances was a teenager and Clyde was a telegrapher. Frances married (who?) and had a daughter Madeline (my mother) in 1910 and later had a son (Charles William). Both were born in Costa Rica. The father of these two (a worker on the canal) left on an expedition and never returned (assumed dead). Mr. C.S. Perry married Frances and adopted the two children. We have no marriage licenses, no birth certificates, no adoption papers, just many photos supporting dates and places and stories from my grandmother Frances. C. S. Perry was very active in Lodges. I have pins and photos supporting this. Some that I know of are: Cruces Lodge No. 9; Gorgona Lodge No. 685 Canal Zone Panama ( a sterling silver medal with 1906-I.A.of M.-1913 on bottom of back and Canal cut depicted on the front); Elks Club (watch fob?) with his name engraved on back with date 1912; Anyone with information to add to my research would be greatly appreciated.

On another note, I have to admit the pacific side had the best athletes in the CZ. We took baseball, football, swimming, track...you name it. When we traveled to the US as the "all zone team" we gave those guys up north a hell of a game.

Interested in getting together a reunion of persons from the Canal Zone who are living in New England states. I have hosted 3 reunions over the years and would be interested in doing another one. We do a lunch with time for all to visit and talk about the "good old days", lasting from 11AM to 3PM, usually on a Saturday. I would need names, addresses and e-mail of all those interested in receiving some information. Last time I had this, folks from New York and Penn. were upset they were not included along with Mass., Vt., R.I., New Hamp. Maine, & Conn. So I guess, all who wish to come are welcome. But...I did not realize how many of us are here in the Tampa Bay area! So...my question is...why do we wait once a year to get together if there are so many of us here? We have some lovely parks in Tampa Bay and in St. Pete, and I think that if enough people got the word, we could put something together before the end of summer. Went through the Ditch 10 times and each time it was on a ship from the former Soviet Union. It was just after the Cuban Missle Crisis so all Soviet Ships were boarded to prevent sabotage from occuring during the transit. A very interesting time. I met quite a few Zonians and look back with fond memories on those times long ago. My best to everyone who was ever there. A special hi to Patty Lawyer (Heilig). Semper Fidelis!
