Comments: The Canal Zone was a true gem which I do miss. You also had the best of both oceans only 50 miles appart. I always loved to go exploring in the jungle. The sound of the ocean and the long days at the beach I do miss. All familys in the C.Z. almost new everyone because of the small towns. After Christmas we always had the comunity tree burn which was a good get together. Thats all I will say because I could say so much about such a great place in the old Canal Zone. PS. You don't know what you have untill its gone in something as good as the Canal Zone.

Comments: De ja vu I put this on the page last night, but it appears to have been 'censored' I'll try again and see what happens This is in response to references to Jimmy Carter giving away the canal. A lesson in history: The treaty process began with Richard Nixon (remember "I am not a crook") and one of our most famous Americans, Henry Kissinger ("I am not a kraut") Sorry about that last comment, must still be a little red left on my neck. The treaty process ended with Carter, but began long before he took office. The earliest beginning, I believe, was with Dwight D. Eisenhower who agreed that Panama held 'titular soveriegnty' over the land of the Canal Zone. The result was the Panamanian and American flags flying side by side in Shaler Plaza. Let's all wish the Panamanians well in the enterprise before them. May we remain friends until the next ice age. Comments: I ran into a guy today May 26,99 in the cafeteria in our building who is a CZ Brat. I was in the zone for over three years back in the 70's. You know, the time when Jimmy Carter gave it away. I got there in Jan of 75 and left in May of 78. I lived on Albrook in the flats with my wife and two children. I loved it there and was sorry when it came time to go back to the states. I was in the 1978 COMM Sq. I worked in NCMO for most of the time I was there. When I first arrived I worked at the SSB Transmitter site on Albrook. Our First appartment was downtown in El Cangrejo on Calle 37 I think. I was, as you might have guessed, in The USAF. We traveled to El Valle, to the San Blas Islands drove all over the country. My whole family just loved it! If anyone was there at or around the same time, I'd love to hear from you. Comments: Hi! Liked the pages. I was born at a Naval Hospital in Coco Solo Canal Zone. I have no memory of Panama as my family was stationed there when my father was in the Navy and we moved around my third birthday. I have always wondered what my birth place looked like so today I did a Net Search for Coca Solo and was happy to find so many beautiful pictures. Most people in the USA can say I'm a Missourian for example; and I always found lost when it came to having a home place. Still dream of someday getting to travel to Panama to see where I was born, but for now the pictures help me to see. Thanks for the mental trip. I was born in Coco Solo in 1949, and lived there till 1953 when we moved back to the states.

Was put in touch recently with the lostparadise website by my cousin, Eddie Stroop, who was born and raised on the Atlantic side and found a link to this page there. Great to see all the photos here! Have been enjoying getting in touch with a few old friends from when I was in Panama. Would have been the class of '78 but left after my 10th grade year. Would enjoy hearing from anyone who remembers me. Spent a lot of time doing community and school theater productions... Great job on this page! Thanks.

Comments: Just returned from Panama, Balboa's last graduation ceremony. I was absolutely thrilled to see that things were much the same as when I lived there from 1959-1962. Spent many years swimming in Albrook's swimming pool and found that it was still there intact, except for the "green water". Security let my brother and I take all the pictures we wanted. We checked out the old B.X., bowling alley and the cafeteria where we used to get fresh lime slushes and loads of papas fritas with lots of ketchup. We located both of our homes on Albrook and was excited to see that they looked much the same, a few plants missing and a tree or two. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. We came home with lots of pictures and videos and memories galore!

I remember Wendi and Candi Wagner (daughters of Commander Wagner, USN) both pretty girls and Wendi was "in the movies" and would come to Panama, from California (?) on vacation occasionally. She or Candi use to have a Volkswagon convertible with a big German Shepard dog that she would bring to the PX at Marine Barracks and our Barracks mascot (Fleet) a Doberman Pincher was always tring to get at the Shepard when they would come to the PX. My wife Donna worked in the Operating Room; John graduated from Balboa HS in 1996, and Robin attended grades 6 - 9 at BE, Curundu, and BHS. We paddled the cayuco race in Sudden Impact (94-97) and Jungle Crews (97). We lived on Ancon Hill just above the helicopter pad, just downhill from Dennis Weldon, the Psychiatrist. Robin still spends a lot of time On-Line with friends from Panama, and still travels to meet them both in USA and back in Panama. Comments: Hello, My Mom Susan Phillips is from Panama. I was able to go to Panama once and I loved my Visit. I always hear about how great Panama was to live in. I wish that I had been able to grow up down there. As long as I can remember we've been going to the Panamanian Runions. My Great Grandfather John F. Phillips moved down in the 1900's to build the Canal. My Mom lived on the Atlantic side and went to Crisobal High School. She Graduated in 1967. She married my Dad Jonathan Fisher in 1968. He had been stationed in the Army in Panama. They had Daniel Aaron in 1976. Then in 1978 they moved to Florida and I was born in Feb. 1979. They say that Panama was the greatest place to be and sometimes they regret ever moving. My Uncle Doug is last of the Phillip's in Panama. He works on Miraflores Locks. Hello to my relatives who read this.

Comments: By the "Zonie's" measurement of time, I was only in Panama for a short while,(13 yrs.) but I really learned to like it. I made some great friends and had some times that were beyond belief. Being able to see Panama thru your pages brings back alot of good memories! Thanx.

Comments: I guess I don't qualify as a full-fledged "Zonian" because my father was a civilian who worked for the Army. Even now at age 33 I still have spent the largest part of my life in Panama. I brought my husband, Andy, back after we got married and he loved it. My daughter was born at GAH. It is nice to find a home on the web now that there is no home to go home to. My parents just moved to Oklahoma last summer. Hello to BHS class of '83. Terri Martinez ('85) if you read this...get in touch.
